For Dr. Maxwell's AP English Language and Composition class, we were assigned to read a non-fiction book of our choice over the summer. Recommended to me by my aunt, Shoe Dog, a memoir written by the creator of Nike, Phil Knight, was the book I chose to read. This book is targeted towards ambitious and highly motivated individuals interested in learning what it takes to become a successful businessman or businesswoman. In his autobiography, Knight shares the hardships he endured and the difficult decisions he was forced to make, like whether or not to go public with his company, leading him to where he is today: the creator and owner of a multibillion-dollar company. He, of course, does not fail to mention his many triumphant moments as well; for example, he was able to watch professional athletes compete in his shoes on live T.V. Knight shares that he was doubted by many, including his father, yet he still chose to pursue his dreams. Reading the book, I felt motivated, believing that anyone, including myself, can own a worldwide, multibillion-dollar company one day. If you are looking for an action or fantasy book, this may not be the one for you. As one who is interested in entrepreneurship and the process of creating a company, I truly loved reading this book and highly recommend it to all!
