Freshman Shabbaton

Ella Hakimian

At the beginning of every year, the North Shore Hebrew Academy High School takes the freshman class on a Shabbaton to start off their high school experience. This year, Rabbi Braun and Mrs. Septimus spent countless hours planning a beautiful getaway to the Ethan Allen Hotel in Connecticut. Along the way there, the freshmen stopped by many fun attractions, including laser tag, bumper cars, and even obstacle courses.

On Shabbat night, the freshmen enjoyed an uplifting tefila as well as a lavish dinner. During dinner, Freshman Sophia Asher delivered a beautiful dvar torah on the Parsha. The boys and girls then split up to participate in Shabbat onegs, where they sang niggunim with their Rabbis and teachers. To top off the night, Mrs. Septimus presented the students with ethical dilemmas related to the parsha, and they shared their own opinions.

The next morning, after shacharit, the freshman class had the pleasure of observing a panel of North Shore's Judaic Studies faculty, including Rabbi Braun, Rabbi Volk, Mrs. Septimus, Rabbi Weinberg, Rabbi Chinskey, and, last but not least, Rabbi Levy. Shabbat day was jam-packed with time for students to relax and bond with one another. To conclude Shabbat, they held a beautiful havdalah where everyone sang and danced. Afterward, the freshmen got to watch a fascinating hypnotist show!

Rabbi Braun says that "the weekend was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to participate in future Shabbatons." I couldn't agree more!
