I was thrilled to compete in the Haftr Yeshiva League Model Congress where students from various yeshivot came together to compete, including some from Florida. This prestigious competition required students to write their own bills and defend them in committees ranging from 8-11 competitors. The day began with Shacharit followed by opening ceremonies with experienced speakers. This was followed by two large committee sessions, and many even introduced crisis topics where students had to think on the spot for adequate solutions. The tournament concluded with a speaker that formerly won NSDA tournaments and is now an advocate for anti-semitism in the United Nations. Dr. Allen, who just received an award for District Coach of the year shared, “North Shore Hebrew Academy made an incredibly strong showing at the Yeshiva Model Congress this year. Out of a group of 175 competitors, six of our students earned awards. In fact, we tied for first place for the total number of awards in the Tournament. Mrs. Bodner and I are extremely proud of their hard work, talent, and most importantly, their professionalism and poise as they represented our school.”
North Shore students made an impressive 2nd place school overall, and tied with Rambam with a total number of 7 awards. The NSHAHS awards went to Elizabeth Mirharoon, Talia Beck, Sarah Kate Leibowitz, and Ilana Greenberg (first place in their respective committees), and to Mayah Rosenzweig and Jordana Bruckheimer (second in their committees). Congratulations to Abby Rutta, who received second place in the overall conference! Our team is currently preparing for the Penn Model Congress in April, and practicing public speaking skills is our primary priority.
