Interview With the March Student of the Month

Interview with Gabriele Joel Ghalander, the March Student of the Month.

Jolie: What is your name?

Gabi Joel: My name is Gabi Joel Ghalander.

Jolie: What grade are you in?

Gabi Joel: I’m in 11th grade.

Jolie: How old are you?

Gabi Joel: I am 16 years old.

Jolie: Why are you getting interviewed?

Gabi Joel: I am getting interviewed today because I am the March Student of the Month.

Jolie: What is Student of the Month?

Gabi Joel: Student of the Month is an award given to a student who puts in a significant amount of effort and works very hard in all of their classes.

Jolie: How do you become Student of the Month?

Gabi Joel: I believe that teachers nominate students who they believe deserve the award, and after that, it is in Dr. Vitow’s hands to choose.

Jolie: How do you feel about being Student of the Month?

Gabi Joel: It feels good. It’s a big accomplishment for me since I have been working as hard as I can in all my classes.

Jolie: Were you surprised? Scared? Happy?

Gabi Joel: At first I was surprised, and then I got excited. I love being able to talk to people about the award.

Jolie: How did you find out that you were going to be Student of the Month?

Gabi Joel: I was called to Dr. Vitow’s office, and he told me that I am the Student of the Month.

Jolie: Did you do anything unique that made you become Student of the Month?

Gabi Joel: I think a big part of it had to do with the strong relationship I share with my teachers. I always ask them questions and speak to them after class. I do everything I can to make sure I understand the material, and I think my teachers recognized my efforts. I think that is why they chose me to be the Student of the Month.

Jolie: What is your advice for someone who wants to be Student of the Month?

Gabi Joel: Work hard, keep putting in effort, try to branch out and try new things. You can also join extracurricular activities. Hopefully you will get it one day.

Jolie: Did the award improve your relationship with your classmates and teachers?

Gabi Joel: Yeah, I think so. People started asking me how I got Student of the Month. It helped me form a better relationship with my teachers, too.

Jolie: What is your favorite class?

Gabi Joel: My favorite class is AP Macroeconomics.

Jolie: Who is your favorite teacher?

Gabi Joel: Mrs. Goldschmidt.

Jolie: What is your advice for students to do well and succeed in high school?

Gabi Joel: First of all, don’t procrastinate. Always try to get your work done as early as you can. Just work hard and smart. Never give up. If you think a class is hard, keep going. If you put in more effort, you will see results.
