Hello to all of you readers, writers, poets, and creative writing enthusiasts out there! Get ready: some time late next week, the North Shore Narratives will be releasing its first publication of the year! Led by Mrs. Kubik, the Creative Writing Club has been hard at work writing pieces of literature to be sent out to the school. Students have written a collection of pieces, including poems, short stories, and more.
The Creative Writing Club met early in the year to discuss works, potential themes, and any other ideas for the publication. Students then worked on their own over the next few months to create original pieces of literature. Once Mrs. Kubik returned from maternity leave, the pieces were read over, fine-tuned, and prepared for publication.
Creative Writing is an incredible outlet for those who have fun ideas they want to get out there. It can be a great way to get out feelings that have been bothering you, or even just a tool to explore and express yourself. It is both important to the writer and the reader.
Students were asked to respond to the question of why they like creative writing and why they think creative writing is important in general:
“I’ve always liked creative writing because it’s always been a part of my life,” replied Elisheva Lemonik, a Creative Writing Club member. “No matter the situation, my brain is immediately firing story ideas. [I] can be talking about anything and at some point during the conversation I will absolutely have the thought, ‘Oooh that would make a great short story/poem/novel.’ It’s how I cope with the world around me. I especially think it’s important now, with the rise of AI writing tools. I think keeping creative writing to the humans keeps us human. People read because they draw comfort from books, and I don't think robots can actually give that.”
“I really enjoy creative writing because of the guidance my teacher and peers give me to help with my creative process,” answered another Creative Writing club member. “Hearing others express their ideas and thoughts through their pieces has inspired numerous ideas of my own…Creative writing is important to me because it encourages me to express my thoughts and emotions in a therapeutic process, making me feel accomplished with the work I have done. I think creative writing is important for others because it allows the reader to be inspired, entertained or feel seen through another’s work. ”
Thank you so much to Mrs. Kubik for all of the work she has been and is putting into this project! Stay tuned and watch your inboxes!
