North Shore Blood Drive

This past Wednesday, March 22nd, North Shore Hebrew Academy High School hosted its second blood drive of the year. The first blood drive was held in November of 2021 and was an immense success. In the weeks leading up to the more recent blood drive, volunteers made and placed signs all around the school, and they helped students register to donate. Students and faculty ages sixteen and up were allowed to donate. Prior to the day of the blood drive, all those who planned to donate were urged to eat a good breakfast and stay hydrated throughout the day. The staff from New York Blood Center set up the donation center in the gym, which included a registration desk, check up booth, recliners and snacks. Volunteers were stationed at the donation center each period to help facilitate the check in process. Many students and faculty members made their way down to the gym at their scheduled times to donate. The blood donation itself took ten to twelve minutes. Senior Ayala Douek donated blood and said, “I feel really amazing about being able to help three different people with something I am so blessed to have. It was such a great experience, and the people there made me feel really special." North Shore Hebrew Academy donated between 40-50 pints of blood in both of the blood drives. This is an immense accomplishment for our school, as each pint of blood can save up to three lives. Recently, the supply of blood in the blood banks has been low due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and especially due to the Omicron surge this past winter. It is amazing that our school community joined together to support this cause and save lives. I encourage all those who are 16 and up to inquire about the possibility of donating blood. “Give blood and keep the world beating!”
