The JV Basketball team had an outstanding season and ultimately made it to the championship game. 300 North Shore fans gathered at the Yeshiva University gym to support the team. In the regular season, North Shore went 1-1 against Magen David High School (MDY)- an even split. When asked about his mindset going into the game, star player Ben Abizadeh said, “My mindset going into this game is to be focused at all times and get my teammates involved so that we can win the game. I am not nervous because I know that no one can stop our team because we are better than every team in the league." Abizadeh had a star-caliber season and showed nothing short of it at the game. He started North Shore off hot in their first run of the game, contributing to every basket scored for the first 10 points; he had 4 points and 2 assists in the just first few minutes. Abizadeh electrified the crowd with the play of the game, which was a step back three-pointer 2 ½ feet behind the 3-point line right; all of which was half a second before halftime. North Shore struggled to break the press throughout the game and turned the ball over multiple times. They seemed to be careless with the ball on occasion, which allowed MDY to stay in the game and complete runs. The game went into overtime, and North Shore struggled with their free-throws. After MDY switched to a man to man defense in overtime, it was a lot easier for Abizadeh to control the game and help get points on the board. Him and teammate Jordan Zarka ran a "pick-and-roll," creating separation and getting Zarka the And-1. North Shore was victorious with a final score of 46-43. Abizadeh was interviewed after the game. He was asked how it felt to be a champion, as well as his outlook on the next season. Abizadeh said that “It feels great and I couldn't have done it without my teammates. They motivated me throughout the season to become better and work harder. I think we can repeat it with the Varsity team next year because there are many talented players who are going to push themselves to win the championship.” It was truly a magical season for North Shore, and we can not wait to see them in the championship again next year!
