Talmud Mesivta

Ariel Azar

One of the most interesting and underrated classes in North Shore is Talmud Mesivta, or what's informally called Double Gemara, offered to eleventh and twelfth graders. The class takes place in the Beit Midrash, one of the bigger classrooms in the school. Taught by the very intelligent and knowledgeable Rabbi Weiss, the class allows students to gain a more in-depth understanding of the Gemara and learn how to properly conduct mitzvot. Rabbi Weiss also addresses any questions his students may have and is always there to guide them. He ensures that his class is both educational and fun- the perfect mix! His commentary on the Gemara can also be very funny at times, which students greatly appreciate. An additional benefit to taking this class, other than the opportunity to learn Gemara and work your brain, is that you have more freedom as to what Judaic studies classes you’d like to take; you can choose whether or not you want to take Chumash and/or Navi. In my humble opinion, Double Gemara is the holiest class in the school. The amount of mitzvot one gains by simply listening in on the class are countless. So, if you are in eleventh or twelfth grade and looking to expand your knowledge of Gemara, I highly recommend you join this class!
