Winter at North Shore

Ella Hakimian

That time of year between Yeshiva break and Passover is unarguably the hardest part to get through. While the cold months and no breaks might cause some distress, there are plenty of ways to enjoy these few months before Passover. First, Purim is a great way to mentally split up these long and dreadful months. You can begin preparing for Purim by getting together your Mishloach Manot and deciding what costume you are going to wear. Most years, Purim ends and before you know it we are getting ready for the Seders. It's also crucial to take this time to begin cleaning our homes for Passover instead of leaving it to the last minute. Throughout February and March, focusing on the small things that make you happy can help you get through your sometimes boring days. A fun mental activity that many psychologists recommend for maintaining a positive attitude is to keep a gratitude journal. Every morning or evening, one should write down five things they are thankful for and five things they are looking forward to. This will keep you excited for future upcoming events, even if it's just as small as opening your new pair of shoes. This exercise will also allow you to stay thankful for and fulfilled with all the things already present in your life. Although it may seem difficult at times, it's always a good idea to take a break from your school work and go out to socialize with friends and family. If you're anything like me, having company around to keep me entertained and joyful makes doing my school work all the more bearable. I hope these tips will help everyone else who is dying for the winter months and snowy weather to be over. Welcome back and good luck!!
