Model Congress to the Big Leagues!

Elaine Novogrudsky

The North Shore Model Congress team was thrilled to have an opportunity to go to Washington DC for the Princeton Model Congress. North Shore was one of three yeshivas to attend, and this was our first competition beyond the Yeshiva Citron League in years. The competition was incredibly different from what the team was used to, which is what made it so special. The entire process was a great learning experience, as we crafted our own bills, listened to diversified opinions in each committee session, and learned to think on the spot. Public speaking was an immense focus within the various committees. We learned that sometimes, how you speak matters more than what you say, even in full House and Senate committees of over 60 people! We got the chance to learn from the hundreds of students who attended, and pick up some new methods of practice and shared techniques. Our team also had the opportunity to spend a beautiful Shabbat with two other yeshivas from around the country. Singing together, eating together and learning together on Shabbat was a unifying experience amidst the fierce competition. Overall, the experience was extremely valuable, giving us an opportunity to learn, compete, and of course...have fun!

Our amazing coach, Dr. Allen, agrees: “This was a great experience for our team as we spread our wings beyond the Yeshiva League for the first time since COVID. I was very proud of our students who represented our school and faith beautifully.  We are looking forward to our next Ivy League competition in April when North Shore will compete at the University of Pennsylvania!”
