Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine

As the number of Coronavirus cases continues to rise, the Pfizer vaccine may be the critical solution we were looking for.

The New York Times reported that the Pfizer vaccine is “95% effective and has no serious side effects.” Certain data has shown that this vaccine has prevented both mild and severe forms of COVID-19. It has even been over 90% effective in older adults who are more at risk and who have not responded to other Coronavirus vaccinations.

The trial cases also have trusting results. Pfizer and its partner BioNTech held a trial with about 44,000 volunteers, half receiving the vaccine and the other half in a control group receiving a placebo shot of salt water. At the end of the trial, out of the 170 volunteers who tested positive for COVID-19, 162 of the positive cases were from the placebo group. Only 8 were from the vaccine group. Pfizer and BioNTech say that the vaccine can be made available once they get approval from the FDA, confirming the safety of receiving the vaccine.

However, Pfizer and BioNTech have reported some mild side-effects after taking the second dose of their vaccine. The companies said, “the most serious adverse event was fatigue, with 3.7 percent of volunteers reporting tiredness after the second dose. Two percent of volunteers reported a headache after the second dose.” These, however, are minor side effects- ones that can be endured, especially if it means curing our nation of this harmful virus and restrictive way of living.
