This year we got to experience most of Shiriyah, the event North Shore students look forward to all year, in person. Both students in grades 9 and 10 had their first ever in person Shiriyah. However, instead of a banquet on the last night, we conducted the closing ceremony on Zoom. Mrs. Septimus, the driving force behind every great Shiriyah, announced winners of several competitions as well as the overall winner live with over 300 viewers. Obviously, being online came with its own challenges, but with the help of professional videographers the school was able to show the performances of each grade. Towards the end however, there was a huge unexpected announcement. Everyone knows that usually the seniors win Shiriyah - most grades aim for second place, however, this year there was an unexpected result! For the first time in over ten years, the Sophomores won Shiriyah! Sophomore Tamir Cohen described this night to be “a great alternative to the usual banquet and very entertaining.” Of course, with COVID, there wasn't much the school could have done to give us the usual Shiriyah, however Mrs. Septimus really pulled through and organized an amazing Shiriyah!
