The school year is now well underway, and that means that it’s time to scout out prospective North Shore Hebrew Academy High School students for the Class of 2028! This past Sunday was the NSHAHS Open House, an event hosted annually to attract prospective students. The eighth graders walked in with their families and checked in. The families were then directed to have refreshments, participate in a Chesed activity for Chayalim in Israel, and finally to go to the Shul to hear the presentations. There was such a large turnout that eventually, there was standing room only in both the main area and the balcony of the Shul.
The choir opened with a few songs, and Rabbi Kobrin and Mr. Miller both spoke to the prospective students and their families. Then, there was a speech from Kayla Mottahedeh, Class of ‘24. A video was presented, followed by a message from Danielle Lev, Director of Admissions. The families were then dismissed to go with their groups to visit sample classes: they had a choice of two General Studies classes, one Judaic Studies class, one elective class, and an Integrated Learning presentation by Rabbi Miller, Director of Integrated Studies. After visiting these classes, there were separate parent and student panels, with current NSHAHS students acting as panelists. The prospective students met in the library and asked panelists questions they had about North Shore Hebrew Academy High School. When the panels were finished, everyone went to the gym for the Academic and Co-curricular Fair, which included a light lunch. Prospective students were invited to visit the NSHA Spirit Stop on their way out to pick up some swag!
Nearly forty current students volunteered at the Open House to check people in at the front desk, help others register, assist at the chesed table, help guide prospective families to classes and other locations, answer any questions, and help at the Spirit Stop. It was a great turnout, and we hope to see many of the Open House visitors next year as our newest NSHA Lions!
