Last week, a Zoom meeting took place between Israeli students currently experiencing the war and Morah Taylor’s students. The Israeli students explained their experiences to us and shared their opinions about the situation. Morah Taylor’s students, myself included, were moved by the experience and have gained a much deeper insight into the Israeli-Gaza war. The students on Zoom started off by explaining exactly what had happened the morning the war had broke out, and described each of their personal experiences and the emotions that they experienced during that time. Some were in shock, and some were simply frightened and worried for their friends and family who might have been affected by the attack.
Although this was an important part of the Zoom, what was most moving, in my opinion, was when they were telling us about how they maintain a hopeful and positive spirit during this time. One girl, Hannah, told us that she volunteered with hundreds of other people to make sandwiches for the soldiers who didn't have food. She told us how amazing it was for her to see so many Jews coming together and uniting for one cause. She continued to talk about how we shouldn't let ourselves get too afraid and depressed, but rather we should be brave and proud. We shouldn't let Hamas get what they want, which is to instill fear. The most prominent message which I have learned from the zoom, which I feel obligated to pass on to you is this: The best way we can help in this war is to show our unconditional support and pride, and not to surrender to whoever tries to bring us down. We must be like the people living in Israel by raising our spirit and by overcoming the fear with our unconditional love for our country Israel! AM YISRAEL CHAI!!!
